OH! I was certain I forgot to make something in August-- but then after posting this, I discovered that I really had done something! Phewf! Seems ages ago that I made that little portable dollhouse.
This, then, is at least a first creation for this month. It's what we did for FHE yesterday.
This, then, is at least a first creation for this month. It's what we did for FHE yesterday.
Our lesson was about keeping our house a "house of order" (D&C 132:8).
We sang "When We're Helping, We're Happy," singing 4 times so we each had our name in the song (make sense?). Then after reading the scripture, we made a little LEGO house and talked about how it was orderly. Then we destroyed it, which made Ender gasp, and talked about how it was now in confusion. The solution? Put it back in order! Then we talked about making our own home a house of order. We helped Ender understand that a messy house is a house of confusion. We then presented a chore chart to him. Michael and I have one, too-- it's not colored, and in place of pockets, we each have a very simple list. It's not so exciting to look at. Ender loves his chart!
We went through each picture and raced to finish the task.
If you're interested, they are as follows, from left to right:
PUT DIRTY CLOTHES IN HAMPER
STRAIGHTEN SHOES BY FRONT DOOR
COMB HAIR
PUT TOYS FROM LIVING ROOM IN BROWN BOOKCASE
PUT TOYS FROM BEDROOM IN TOY BOX
SWEEP FOOD CRUMBS FROM UNDER SCARLETT'S HIGHCHAIR
BRUSH TEETH
GATHER CUPS FROM AROUND HOUSE AND PUT IN SINK
PUT KID BOOKS BACK ON BOOKSHELF
MAKE BED
This is very helpful to me, and I love that Ender enjoys it! He loved it sooo much that it was the first thing he did this morning, shouting with triumph "I did it!" every time he finished a task and moved the cards to the right pocket. He had done everything the night before, so nothing was very messy, but he loved it anyway. He even admitted during breakfast that he "put the books in confusion" so he could clean them up! :D
Ender agrees he is happy when he is helping.
Oh, and our FHE treat was Jell-O jigglers. Not that that has anything to do with the lesson, unless you think the jiggliness is comparable to confusion or disorder...??? Hah!
My kids LOVE that! And so do I!
